Revolution 2020- A Review

Well I do admire Chetan Bhagat for his breaking into the literature world with his 'not hard to fathom' writing. Five point someone was definitely a breath of fresh air. Especially when it came from an Indian author and also because we mere mortals were allowed a peek into the world of IIT. The books that followed were not stellar works but were merely riding on the success of his first book. He chose his subjects wisely. He knew exactly what clicks in India and what doesn't. IIT, IIM, call centers and of course cricket. He has covered them all. Except Bollywood, I thought he used up all the subjects Indians would give a damn about. And just when we thought he might have ran out of ideas to keep the desis enthralled, came the Anna Hazare movement. And Bang on!...perfect timing...Revolution 2020

Keeping aside the assumption that he was writing to get his books sold, I 'tried' reading with no preconceived notions. It deals with the lives of three friends and how their lives and decisions are intertwined to affect the outcomes that they face. But the book wasn't unputdownable. It felt like a seen and forgotten plot in a typical 'gangster and goons vs quirky clean politician' movie. Unlike his other books, the main protagonist 'Gopal' was not likeable. I couldn't empathize with him. The book claims to be about three friends but gives very little or no insight about the third character Raghav's thoughts. The female lead 'Aarti' in the story was portrayed disturbingly well. Like any girl she was confused, clueless and seemed to have no idea about what she was doing. The book fails to throw light on the reasons behind many of the characters' actions and decisions. Towards the end of the book it felt the story was forced to wrap up. I'm not sure whether it will be an eye opener to others but it definitely didn't revolutionalize my thoughts. I have to say this was my least favorite of all the Chetan Bhagat books. It lacked both the humor and sensitivity which he cleverly infused into his previous attempts. Read the book if you are on a roll and have been following all his books so far. Else there is absolutely no harm in missing this one.

Pursuit of Happiness

I had to start blogging again and even this time it wasn't the rebirth of the perished passion for writing. Y'day I realized that it is not always that you are jobless (literally, metaphorically and in every other figure of speech) and have all the time in the world. Also adding fuel to the fire was realization that many of my friends and foes had landed in to the world of blogging and that too with really good posts. So here goes..

None of us know what we really want out of life. Until one month back I thought that having a full pass in my final year engineering would make my life perfect. Even in prayers I pointed out this was my top prioritized wish. Though grateful of the blessed positive result, the story didn't end there. I don't know if it was the glitch in the formation of words in my prayer because they say you have to be careful of what you wish for. Was there a need for some add ons to my prayer or does true happiness truly cease to exist.

Sometimes I even wonder if fairy tales were actually morale boosters or false promises. Misguiding us to think that in the end it is always "happily ever after".
When I was a kid I just couldn't wait till I was a grown up so that I could have my version of happily ever after. That was a phase in my life when I thought it was only a matter of time before which I am about to be discovered and live my dream. A time when I thought I am unique and the world revolves around me. (Paulo Coelho still seems to think so). There blossomed the now evolved and misguided idea of pursuit of happiness but clearly in the wrong direction. It was an idea which we were made to believe in. Maybe it was then that the inception of a wrong idea molded by the fantasies of a beautiful future was triggered.

But slowly it strikes that waiting is never the answer. Never push away your dreams for later or for the right time because then you realize that it is too late. We never realize until it becomes a beautiful memory that this is the moment to be savored to the fullest. And that you are living your "happily ever after" right now.
All we have to do is accept that even in the GAME of life each level keeps getting tougher than the last one but fortunately for you in this game even your enemy does not possess the cheat codes. So let's just play on until its time for game over. So to sum it all...in the end ...happiness is not to be sought after but it is to enjoy "being you" . If you still haven't understood a word I wrote, scroll back to the top and read the post again or just go watch Kal ho na ho :P

Alright...now this entry ain't no product of an outbreak of the innovative spirit(if at all it exists)...just a desperate attempt to keep this blog breathing. Lets see my blog's present standing...mmm....one entry so far,3 readers (1 being moi) and great reviews(again mine).

Checked out a few blogs of ppl i kno and realized its best if you don't look into too many blogs before starting out on yours coz you kinda get lost on what exactly you want ur blog to be doing and especially when you really don't want it to be doin much. So without losing out on too much of my individuality(again only if in existence)...I attempt in what I feel the following blogs lack.

Some use(or misuse) blogs as frustration relievers(really works to just scream out noiselessly!!), others to put across a message by pretending like you are talking to no one in particular and still converse to that special someone (in matters of the heart) or to a not so special someone(in matters of the fist!), day to day events, philosophical blah blahs(anyone can be a philosopher with a convincing combination of words), spreading the gospel(now that i can't point a finger at), sharing knowledge(sharing or exhibiting u decide).....the list is countless.

Now... now... the question in everybody's mind....what makes this blog any different?? Am I exactly practicing what I'm preaching? What exactly is this blog doing in this pool of nonsense I'm talking about?? My answer....Nothing(with a capital n! 4 the emphasis) ...Like I said just a desperate measure for a second entry. I'm not preaching so who cares about practicing the crap I write. And I think I just lost many a prospective followers for my blog.

When my cousin Sanu heard I started bloggin', this is what he said to my sister.."Isn't it enough that she's killing us?! Now she wants to murder the whole world??" On that extremely happy and encouraging note I put my full stop.
